Our philosophy
We believe that all children
should have access to a typical environment.
We believe that administrators play a
vital role in opening up their schools and child care centers to all children.
We believe that rather than 'watering
down' the curriculum for typical children, the inclusion of children with disabilities and
those whose native language is other than English, requires a higher standard of
consistency in teaching for all students. It requires teachers to utilize 'best
practices'.
We believe that rather than diminishing
the classroom experience for typical children, children who are different enhance that
experience by providing opportunities for building a classroom environment filled with
compassion, empathy, cooperation, and an acceptance of difference.
We believe that teachers, parents,
paraprofessionals, related service personnel, and administrators need and deserve support
and training in order to achieve the goal of opening up all classrooms to all children.
We believe that systemic change needs to
occur in our public schools. |
